HER STORY

Bombell’s sporting entry was early but not immediate at elite level: the archived AOC athlete profile says she started synchronised swimming at age 10 and made her first Australian national team 11 years later, in 2004. That timing followed a missed Athens 2004 Olympic selection, after which her partnership with Eloise Amberger developed into one of Australia’s defining artistic-swimming duets.

The Australian Olympic Committee’s current Olympian profile records her selection for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Team alongside Amberger, her best friend and regular duet partner. At Beijing, however, Bombell’s documented competed Olympic event was the women’s team, which Australia finished seventh. The available records do not support attributing a Beijing duet result to her.

Bombell and Amberger subsequently achieved their stated ambition of competing together as an Olympic duet at London 2012. Bombell competed in both listed women’s events: the duet with Amberger placed 23rd, while Australia’s team placed eighth. These are competed-event results, not reserve or DNS entries; the AOC profile explicitly describes the London duet and team finishes.

Her international record also includes the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games, where Bombell and Amberger won bronze in the duet. The archived AOC profile records a 2007 FINA World Championships free-team-combination final and lists 2010 Swiss Open, 2010 FINA World Cup and 2011 FINA World Championships performances. Commonwealth Games Australia independently confirms the Delhi bronze and her two Olympic appearances.

By the time of the archived London profile, Bombell represented Gold Coast Mermaids, trained primarily on the Gold Coast and secondarily in Brisbane, and was coached by Anna Nepotacheva and Marina Kholod. Her education included a Bachelor of Exercise Science at Griffith University (2000–2004), and the profile says she was completing a Master of Physiotherapy there. It also documents appearances in shows, displays and commercials, including a circus production featuring divers and synchronised swimmers, and an appearance in Eskimo Joe’s ‘From the Sea’ film clip. These are documented activities rather than evidence of a current career or status.

Primary AOC and the archived official AOC profile agree on the two Olympic appearances, London event outcomes, birth date/place, coaches, education and Gold Coast Mermaids connection. Olympedia independently lists Beijing team seventh and London duet 23rd/team eighth, and World Aquatics confirms London event participation and scores. Commonwealth Games Australia independently confirms the 2010 Delhi duet bronze and two Olympic appearances. Terminology varies between older sources ('synchronised swimming') and current governing-body terminology ('artistic swimming'); the profile preserves both where useful. The archive says she was completing a Master of Physiotherapy in 2012, so no later completion or current status is inferred. Olympic results include only events in which she is documented as competing; no reserve or DNS result is attributed.
