HER STORY

Bianca Maree Hammett was born on 12 September 1990 in Warrnambool, Victoria. According to the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC), she was inspired to take up synchronised swimming in 1999, aged eight, after seeing an advertisement in a newspaper. Publicly opened sources do not provide a fuller account of her junior clubs or early coaches, so those details should not be filled in by assumption.

Hammett made Australia’s national team in 2007 and competed internationally for the first time that year at the FINA World Championships in Melbourne. World Aquatics records her in the women’s team at the 2007 championships and lists further senior-world-championship team performances in 2011, as well as duet performances at the 2015 FINA World Championships with technical and free scores of 72.0011 and 73.1667.

She was selected as a reserve for Australia’s Beijing 2008 team, an important distinction from competing at those Games. Her first Olympic competition came at London 2012, followed by a second Olympic appearance at Rio 2016. Olympedia records both Olympic entries in the women’s team event; the AOC profile likewise identifies London 2012 and Rio 2016 as her Olympic history.

In the lead-up to Rio, Hammett served as captain of the Australian synchronised swimming team and was paired with Nikita Pablo in both duet routines at the 2015 qualification campaign. The AOC reported that the national squad trained near full-time, with camps alternating between Canberra and Perth; during camp, Hammett described six hours in the pool followed by two hours of land training, meetings and video review.

The Rio team used Australian themes, including native fauna and an outback-inspired free routine, building on the team’s AC/DC-medley presentation at London. Hammett said the captaincy allowed her to pass on experience to a young team. The AOC reported that, after London, the rest of that Olympic team retired and Hammett was grateful to return for a second Games.

World Aquatics lists no Olympic or other medals for Hammett and records a 2015 Synchro World Trophy women’s duet thematic score of 82.1667. The sources reviewed do not document her education, post-sport career, hobbies, or current status; those subjects should be treated as unknown rather than inferred from dated profiles.
