HER STORY

Born in South Brisbane on 17 March 2003 and based in the Gold Coast, Georgia Courage-Gardiner is an Australian artistic swimmer affiliated with the Gold Coast Mermaids. The Australian Olympic Committee lists the Mermaids as both her junior and senior club, with Marina Kholod as her coach, and records Aquinas College, Ashmore, as her high school.

Courage-Gardiner was a dancer and swimmer before choosing artistic swimming after watching the sport at the London 2012 Olympic Games when she was nine. She was attracted by the way it combined her two interests. The AOC says that, within a few years, she had achieved success at national championships, entered the Youth National Team and competed at the Mediterranean Cup in Portugal.

Her first Olympic involvement came at Tokyo 2020, held in 2021: she was selected as an alternate member of Australia’s team and travelled to Tokyo to train in the lead-up to the Games. She was a reserve in case another swimmer became unavailable, but was not required to compete. This experience nevertheless gave her daily exposure to Olympic-team preparation and the physical and mental demands of reaching the Games.

Courage-Gardiner became part of Australia’s senior team from 2020 according to Inside Synchro. Her documented international pathway includes the 2018 World Junior Artistic Swimming Championships, the 2022 World Championships in Budapest and the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka. At Fukuoka she swam in the team event and partnered Zoe Poulis in the duet; the team finished eighth in the free final after placing 11th in the technical preliminaries, while the duet placed 22nd in the free event.

At Paris 2024, Courage-Gardiner made her Olympic competition debut in Australia’s open team. The team finished ninth overall with 728.4358 points. The AOC describes the three routines as a jungle-themed technical routine, an Avatar-themed free routine and a cheerleading-inspired acrobatic routine; the published scores were 235.9071, 280.5521 and 211.9766 respectively.

Her wider senior record includes the 2022 World Championships (13th in highlight team, 17th in technical team and 26th in technical duet), the 2023 World Championships (eighth in free team, 12th in technical team and 14th in acrobatic team), and the 2024 World Championships (eighth in technical team, 10th in free team and 15th in acrobatic team), as compiled by Inside Synchro. World Aquatics also records a bronze in team acrobatic at the 2024 World Aquatics Artistic Swimming World Cup in China.

Courage-Gardiner has said that duet is her favourite event because it involves swimming with a close partner toward a shared goal. Public profiles also document the demanding strength, flexibility, artistry and underwater endurance required by her sport. Beyond her Aquinas College education, the opened sources do not provide reliable details about tertiary study, employment or hobbies, so those areas are left unclaimed.

The AOC profile is the primary source and explicitly distinguishes Paris 2024 Olympic competition from Tokyo 2020 alternate/reserve status. Olympedia independently confirms the 17 March 2003 birth date, South Brisbane birthplace, Gold Coast Mermaids affiliation and ninth-place Paris team result. Inside Synchro supplies detailed year-by-year placements but is a specialist secondary source; World Aquatics confirms performance records and the 2024 World Cup acrobatic bronze.
